Ideas for a rainy day in Tyrol
Excursions in autumn
The sun doesn’t always shine, even in Tyrol. However, there is a great deal to do in rainy weather and on grey autumn days in and around Innsbruck. The list of excursions in Tyrol will also include something for your time budget.
The 360 degree views from the Bergiselschanze ski jump, 250 m above Innsbruck, are truly impressive. The structure was designed by star architect Zaha Hadid and is located just a few minutes’ drive from the Bierwirt. It includes a viewing terrace and panorama restaurant. However, if the imposing views of the Inntal Valley and Nordkette mountains are interrupted by the clouds, the 1000 m2 circular painting in the new Bergisel museum is a worthy substitute.
Cultural heritage and animal stars
The Hofburg Palace in Innsbruck is one of Austria’s three most important cultural monuments along with the Hofburg Palace in Vienna and the Schönbrunn Palace. Another great attraction for families is the Alpine zoo: its location at an altitude of 750 m makes it unique in Europe. 2000 animals roam over more than 4 ha of land here.
Autumn excursions in Tyrol: discover, enjoy, admire
The Aqua Dome Ötztal is a real fountain of youth on cold days: the thermal waters of the ‘Tirol Therme Längenfelden’ spa are derived from hot spring water which rushes down through the rock from the imposing heights of the glaciers and then re-emerges from a depth of around 1800 m.
